Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Beauty of Nature Film Series: The Big Year, Sunday, July 9th, 5pm – The Big Year (2011; 100 min), a high-flying comedy about the escapades of a trio of competitive bird watchers who vow to win a contest by spotting and recording as many avian species as humanly possible. Cast includes Owen Wilson, Steve Martin, and Jack Black.  Peninsula High School Theater, 27118 Silver Spur Road.  Cost $10 online. Wildland Fires in Southern California at White Point Nature Education Center & Preserve, Saturday, July 22nd, 11am – Jon Wren will describe wildland fires, their effects and influence on land development in Southern California.  Free. Impressions Workshop, Sunday, July 23rd, 9am-11am at Terranea Resort.  Enjoy a naturalist-guided coastal hike and family friendly activities along Discovery Trail to Terranea Resort for a children’s art workshop.  All ages welcome.  Cost is $25 per family.  Meet in front of the statue at Pelican Cove Parking area, 31300 Palos Verdes Dr. South, RPV.  For reservations visit www.pvplc.org.

Guided NATURE WALK by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy at La Rotunda/South Shores, Saturday, July 8th, 9amWalk through impressively restored habitat on top of an ancient slide area. Plein air artist will be painting along the route.  Walk only groups will be available led by expert trails users for those who wish to walk without interpretive stops. Stories, Songs and More for All at the White Point Nature Education Center, Saturday, July 8th, 10amShare the joy of storytelling with your children and introduce them to the beauty of the natural surroundings. Full Moon Hike at George F Canyon, Saturday, July 8th with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.  Explore nocturnal sights with an expert naturalist under a full moon at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve.  Must be age 9 and up.  $12 per person.  Reservations required at www.pvplc.org, Events & Activities.

Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited at White Point Nature Preserve, Wednesday, July 19th, 8:30am. Explore the birds making a home in the restored habitat at this beautiful preserve.  Binoculars supplied for beginners.  The program is free.  All ages welcome.  White Point Nature Preserve is located at 1600 W. Outdoor Volunteer Days at Native Plant Nursery, Monday – Friday9am.  Enjoy nurturing seedlings and help shrubs grow for habitat restoration projects.  Must RSVP 48 hours in advance. Sign up at www.pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Rapid Response Team, Fridays and Saturdays, 9am – 12pm. Work alongside Conservancy staff protecting important wildlife habitat by closing unauthorized trails! Task include trail maintenance, building fence, installing signage and more! We work at various locations around the Preserve where work is most needed. Directions to sites emailed upon sign up.
