Beware: New Scam by Suspects Claiming to be from Southern California Edison

Residents on two different occasions reported the following:

Business gets a call from suspect claiming to be from Southern California Edison and states the business is seriously delinquent. Victim is asked to call 844-388-3482 and provide a check number.

Response from SCE: “We have submitted a report based on the information you provided. In the future, please have the SCE customer contact us direct with the details of the call and we will submit a report to our Corporate Security department.”

SCE never calls a customer to collect or demand money for past due bills. We will send notices by mail or contact you by an automated telephone message. If someone calls threatening to shut-off your utility service unless you immediately pay an overdue bill, verify the request by calling the utility company.

What you should do if you suspect a call is fraudulent:

Ask for the caller’s name, department, and business phone number. If the caller refuses to provide this information, customers should terminate the call and report the incident immediately to local police or SCE. If the caller provides their information, do not call the telephone number they provided to verify if payment is required. Always call the telephone number provided on your statement.
