Lunada Bay Fountain Landscaping Project

The Lunada Bay Fountain named “La Fuente de los Ninos” (The Children’s Fountain) was built in 1965 as a gift to the City from neighborhood children who raised funds for its development. The fountain is dedicated to G. Brooks Snelgrove, an engineer for the Palos Verdes Project.

After many years of deterioration the fountain was restored in 2008 according to the original design concept dating back to 1964. LBHOA led fund raising efforts and led the refurbishment effort with the City.

Unfortunately, over time, lack of dedicated maintenance and a failed irrigation system, landscaping restoration is needed once again. In 2019 the LBHOA worked with a Lunada Bay resident and landscape designer to create a low-maintenance, drought-resistant landscaping restoration that has been approved by the City and paid for by resident donations and a grant from the PVE Foundation. Plantings for the landscaping restoration were selected to provide drought-tolerance and low maintenance plants along with good traffic visibility. Ground-hugging Shore Junipers dominate the landscaping with the fountain surrounded by Magenta Rockrose and Dwarf Coast Rosemary. Pink Rock Purslane is added for seasonal flowering.

Most importantly, to ensure proper maintenance for years to come, the LBHOA has contracted with Bennett Landscaping. Bennett Landscaping will provide dedicated plant and ground maintenance ensuring that this magnificent LB Plaza landmark remains a beautiful welcome to our community.
